How Laser Hair Removal Works

What Causes Excess Hair?

Hair grows in cycles Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. How many hairs you see at one time depends on where they are in their growth cycle. For treatments to be successful the hair must be treated when it is in the Anagen phase the active growth cycle. Depending on the area of the body the hair growth cycle can be anywhere between 4 to 8 weeks. There are many factors that influence hair growth these including age, sex, ethnicity, and hormone levels.

How Does the Laser Treat Hair?

Relaxing Wellness uses the IPL Palomar Starlux, one of the most sophisticated hair removal systems on the market. Palomar was the first company to patent the IPL for Laser Hair Removal and have FDA approval. The system emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment located inside the hair follicle. The laser is then pulsed and or turned on for a fraction of a second to target the hair. The duration and strength of the pulse is carefully determined so that the energy will be absorbed only by the hair follicle and not the surrounding tissue. The hair then heats up so much so that it is destroys the surrounding follicle. The effected hair is then naturally shed from the body within 10 to 21 Days post treatment.

Before Laser Treatment Advice:

  • Do not wax tweeze, wax or have electrolysis 2 weeks prior to laser hair removal
  • To not use drugs that cause photosensitivity for seven days prior to treatment
  • Shave area one day prior to treatment
  • Use sunscreen in the area prior and post laser treatments

Is Laser Safe?

Laser Hair Removal was pioneered after more than 30 years of research by physicians. It is been shown through extensive clinical trials to provide safe and effective hair removal. The laser parameters were carefully defined by studying the anatomy of the hair follicle and precisely matching the laser light pulse duration to the follicle size depth and location.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

Damage to the hair follicle can remove unwanted hair permanently. However due to the nature of the hair and the many factors influence the growth the results may vary person to person. The effect of repeated treatments is cumulative and most people experience a marked reduction, anywhere between 70 and 97% hair reduction.

Is More Than One Treatment Necessary?

Yes, laser only works on hair that is actively in the growing or Anagen phase resting hair in the Telogen phase is not affected by laser depending on the body site various percentages of hair growing phase at one time some sites require 6 to 10 treatments and some require more depending on the degree of hair thinning or reduction that you desire.
